Istanbul Guide

Straddling both Europe and Asia and with population of 15 million, Istanbul is an expanding metropolis. Much of this guide is focused on my personal taste and suggestions to visitors who’d like to have an opinion of a local. Enjoy the city!

  • Anatolian, traditional Cuisine.  There is a dedicated Chef’s Table episode dedicated to this restaurant on Netflix

Farika Döner

  • Everybody has their own favorite but this is mine - Best Döner Kebap in town!

Beyti

  • A timeless classic, elegant meat restaurant with classical decoration, closely located to the late Atatürk Airport

Uskumru Restaurant

  • Fish Restaurant on the Bosporus with an amazing view, you can take a boat to the restaurant from Rumeli Hisarı

Adana Ocakbaşı

  • Very authentic restaurant offering delicious sis-kebabs from south & southeast region

Hüsrev Lokantası

  • A traditional Turkish black sea  cuisine "trattoria"

Lider Pide

  • A Pide (form of Turkish Calzone Pizza)  Restaurant 
  • Suggestion: Kıymali Yumurtalı Pide (pide with minced meat and egg)

Elbet

  • A spin-off from world famous Nusret (Saltbea), great steakhouse with some Turkish twists.

Breakfast

 Breakfast is a very important meal in Turkish daily living and cuisine. It is also common to have breakfast outside home especially during weekends. Below you can find some traditional and some modern options with no particular order;


Nezih Rumelihisarı

  • Traditional breakfast, great variety with amazing view of Bosporus

Emirgan Sütiş

  • A classic traditional breakfast spot on the Bosporus – has branches around the city
  • what to eat: Menemen, bal-kaymak, beyaz peynir

Çengelköy Tarihi Çınaraltı

  • A very traditional tea-garden under a 800 yr old plane tree on the Bosporus – make sure you buy your simit before from the bakery (Tarihi Çengelköy Fırını) nearby and bring it along
